If someone is advertising a “teacup chihuahua” "pocket sized" "mini" or "miniature" you have to know that these advertisements are being used to make you think you are getting something exceptional and rare (whilst asking big dollars!!) and their claims are completely false!
As per the official breed standard, Chihuahua’s are categorized by weight with the standard stating that a Chihuahua should be between 1.8kg to 2.7kg, but just like with people there will and can be a size difference between individual dogs within the breed.
Some will be taller and have more leg. Others will be heavier. Ears might not be as big on some, and muzzles might be longer on others.
The four things that will never change when describing a Chihuahua is that they will either be a male/female or long coated/smooth coated and that’s it.
Occasionally a puppy might be born that is unusually small. That puppy is just a small Chihuahua and they are not specifically bred! Small puppies can be super cute and healthy as puppies, but it is most likely that because of their small size, (especially as they get older) that you are going to need more visits to the vet to keep their health where it needs to be.
So please don't be sucked in by any of the above terms!
LET ME BRIEFLY TOUCH ON COLOURS
Lilac, Silver, Chocolate, Brindle, Blue or White .
These colours are definitely not rare and should not be advertised as such or have huge prices!
All the colours above, are due to a recessive gene and a dilution of colour and that’s it. Not rare, and not uncommon and definitely not worth more money either!
Please before buying educate yourself so that you won’t be taken in by those less than trustworthy sellers trying to earn bigger bucks with their false claims!
