To ensure my dogs are well bred, I currently test for; merle, patella and heart conditions over all my own bred dogs. Eye testing is done when they reach a certain age.
Now we have even taken it one step further by using either EMBARK or ORIVET for a full DNA profile test where our chihuahuas are now tested for 206+ genetic conditions: 5 breed relevant genetic conditions and a further 201+ additional genetic conditions.
Before mating, my girls are swabbed to make sure they are clear of any bacteria, and I have been lucky enough to acquire male studs where most genetic testing has also been completed.
Chintaro is all about improving the breed and I use the above health testing measures, to ensure that not only are our Chihuahua's of the highest standard, but on that occasion of when a puppy or adult does become available, the new owners have that peace of mind knowing that all the above health screening has taken place.
Please note: Patella is checked from the start of vaccinations, however I do not get them scored (when a certificate is then supplied) until they are 2 years of age, allowing the dog time to fully develop.
